In October 2025, I attended a three-day symposium with the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) in beautiful Greenville, South Carolina. These meetings always have sponsor tables filled with new technologies and products. As I walked past one, a name caught my eye—Heart Tone Botanicals. They were showcasing several oral care products, and something about their table made me pause.
Back when I was in dental school, I remember asking an instructor, “What toothpaste is best to use?” His reply stuck with me for decades:
“The toothbrush and floss are the most important. Using those properly is 90% of it. The actual toothpaste is somewhat irrelevant.”
That became my standard answer to patients asking the same question. But over time, our understanding of what supports true oral wellness has evolved.
Searching for Something Better
For years, I’ve been exploring ingredients like hydroxyapatite, xylitol, and other natural agents that support remineralization—not just cavity prevention. I’ve tested countless “natural” toothpaste options trying to find the one I could confidently recommend.
Then, I saw it.
On that table at the IAOMT meeting, Heart Tone Botanicals had a list of ingredients that stopped me in my tracks:
- Colloidal silver
- Two types of clay
- 19 botanical plant extracts
- Organic ingredients
- Earth minerals
- Coconut oil
- Xylitol
- Micro-hydroxyapatite
- Tea tree oil
- And more...
I have never seen all of these nourishing, holistic ingredients in one product.
Their toothpaste is appropriately named Living Crystal Toothpaste—a nod to the crystalline nature of our teeth and the life-giving support these ingredients provide. It’s designed to feed, support, remineralize, and desensitize our living tooth structure. I was blown away.

But How Did It Feel?
Of course, in the back of my mind I was still skeptical: What does it taste like? Will my mouth feel gritty? How long will it feel clean?
Thankfully, they were offering samples. I took one back to my room and brushed with it morning and night for two days.
I was pleasantly surprised by both the taste and the feel. My teeth felt truly clean—not just after brushing, but throughout the day. That’s rare for most natural toothpastes, which often leave my mouth feeling not-so-fresh after a few hours.
A Grit-Free, Foam-Free Experience That Works
Living Crystal Toothpaste doesn’t contain the harsh foaming agents (like SLS) many people are sensitive to. It doesn’t foam—but that’s by design. This is a clay-based toothpaste, which gently pulls toxins from the soft tissues in your mouth.
Even better, there are no harmful ingredients—none. The makers are just as proud of what’s not inside as they are of what is.
If you want a full breakdown of what each ingredient does for your oral health, I encourage you to visit their website. They’re knowledgeable and passionate—but likely very busy… because they’re fulfilling large orders from people like me!

Why I’m Finally Selling Toothpaste in My Office
I’ve never carried a “natural” or holistic toothpaste in my office before—because I never found one that met my standards. But this is the Holy Grail. I’ve used it exclusively since discovering it, and my tooth sensitivity is gone. I love this stuff.
For those who want more, I also carry Heart Tone Botanicals' Restorative Mouth Rinse. While I believe the combination of fluoride-free Living Crystal Toothpaste, a Sonicare toothbrush (or our Bamboo Toothbrush), floss, and a supportive diet is ideal, the alcohol-free mouthwash is a great extra—especially with the same high-quality botanicals.
A Patient’s Perfect Summary
Last month, a patient caring for her ill husband said this about using the toothpaste:
“This isn’t one more thing I have to do. This is a treat—like spa time for my mouth. This feels SO. GOOD.”
And I thought—there it is. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
